Hope Is Where the Heart Is
Hope Through Birth wants to spread our message of hope and compassion. The purpose of our ministry is to walk along side those who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss through doula services, support groups, workshops, and events. It is our hope that in your darkest days of navigating life after loss that Hope Through Birth can offer love, support, and compassion to each individual who finds themselves on the pregnancy and infant loss journey.
In October 2011, Blake and Stephanie Nalley found themselves experiencing the darkest day of their lives. They were expecting their first child that was due on October 31, 2011. The pregnancy itself had been pretty routine. They were excited as the day was approaching for them to meet their baby boy, and they had the house packed of baby supplies, from diapers to baby gear. The carseat had been installed for weeks, and they were eager to meet their baby boy. It was October 17, 2011, Stephanie had her routine 38 week OB appointment, and she had been feeling great. It was at 4:30 pm, October 17, 2011 that Stephanie's OB could not find her babies heart beat with the doppler. Blake and Stephanie were faced with a moment that held so many thoughts, confusion, and frustration. In one moment, their entire life was flipped upside down. The words, "I'm sorry, there's no heartbeat" forever embedded in their memories as they began a new journey.
Bentley was born the next day, October 18, 2011 weighing 6 pounds and 19 inches long. He was perfect. The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck three times which lead to his stillbirth. The death of Bentley brought great sadness and deep sorrow to the Nalley's, but they knew that Bentley's life was important. They knew that his death was not their end. Hope Through Birth was formed from the darkest days of their lives. It was created to bring hope and healing to others who may walk in those same shoes. They wanted to help others feel less alone. Stephanie and Blake have become advocates for those in the community helping others navigate their "new" normal.

Pregnancy and infant loss can be isolating, and it can be overwhelming. Hope Through Birth can never promise to take away the pain or sadness that is caused by the death of a baby, but it does want to be a place that people can find hope and healing in their journey. My hope is that each day after you have experienced your loss that you can learn to put one foot in front of the other and walk forward. It does not matter if you have to take the days hour by hour or second by second--all that matters is that your feet are on the ground. We will be here to walk along side you during the darkest days of your life.
